A Clear Vision for Takoma Park!

I want to make this election a month-long conversation about the kind of town we want, three, five, 10 years from now.  Not just in terms of architects’ and planners’ visions, but in terms of what we value most about this very special place, and how we keep that in the midst of a rapidly changing context.  I want to reach out to the diverse communities all the way to our edges to bring people into the conversation, to lead the council to line up a few more solutions and maybe a few less resolutions.

Primary Goals

Watch the Bottom Line
In light of the current economic downturn and looming state funding cuts, we can and must find lower-cost ways to get the services we need and want. We must be creative and realistic.
Lead in Sustainability
Takoma Park has a long and honorable history of leading in environmental issues.  In addition to the role the city government plays in promoting  sustainability, enhancing Takoma Park’s character as a walkable town is an important community effort.
Prepare for Growth
The spirit of our city is marked by people’s attitudes and not by map boundaries.  Our city’s destiny is bound with that of its neighbors.  We must foster activities that bring people together across all of the boundary lines.
